Are you passionate about mountain biking, community and teen engagement?
WORD (World Off-road Riding Department) is a youth mountain bike charity working with tamariki and rangatahi aged 7-17 across the Wellington region. Our kaupapa is simple: use mountain biking as a tool for confidence, connection, leadership and lifelong wellbeing.
The Youth MTB Programmes Lead is a senior, hands-on role for a leader in youth development who can confidently design and deliver programmes on the ground, while also contributing to the wider strategic growth of WORD. This role sits at the intersection of programme delivery, youth engagement and participation, teen leadership, and organisational support.

The Leadership Team
Developed in early 2022, The Leadership Team overseas the operations across Aotearoa. We are the people that keep WORD working, growing, adapting and innovating! We are driven to make WORD the best youth MTB organisation in all the land. This team is overseen by Ashley Peters, WORD Founder and CEO. They each work 10-30 hours/week on various roles that keep WORD ticking (and growing!) along.

The WORD Instructors are the best! These are the folks that instruct our after school programmes and camps. As an instructor, you will be paid for teaching kids how to be good riders and good people. MTB skills, trail building, bike maintenance, and teamwork are all part of the job. You don’t need to be an amazing rider, but you do need to be stoked about helping kids enjoy it just as much as you do.
Assistant Instructors

Full of energy and stoked on riding, these 14-16 year olds assist the WORD Instructors in the after school programmes. The Assistant Instructor position is a volunteer spot that also gives you access to secret trips away! You can also use your volunteer hours as credits for Duke of Edinburgh award or school volunteer hours.
